Lately, I have noticed that the quality of some of the HK livestreams channels in 粵海寬頻 app (J2, ATV, TVB news channel) seems to be improved, these livestreams channels look a bit sharper than before. Maybe   they have changed the source of the livestreams or they have improved their hardware. Anyway, I welcome any quality improvements of the livestreams channels. The next step should be adding more livestreams channels.

How to install TVpad2 (TVpad M233) games (instruction)

Follow the steps below in order to install the TVpad2 (TVpad M233) games (TVpad firmware 3.70).

Step 1: First, download the "Game Installation Assistant" (游戏安装助手.rar) package: Game Installation Assistant package download and extract the 游戏安装助手.rar package (using Winrar for example).
You should get the file called "gvos2-sd3".

Step 2: Put the extracted "gvos2-sd3" file in your USB stick along with the games (.pkg tvpad game files can be downloaded below). Do not change the name of the extracted file  "gvos2-sd3"

Step 3: Now, turn on your TVpad2 and wait till the main menu appears (you will see "App Manager", 
"My TVpad" and  "Settings" on the left side of your screen). Then, connect the USB stick with your 
TVpad2 (TVpad M233) and you will see the following image appear:

You should see the screen above after you have connected your USB stick with the TVpad2. 

Now, press the "OK" button on your remote control

After pressing the "OK" button on your remote control, you will see the screen above. It is analyzing 

how many tvpad games need to be installed.

After analyzing the USB stick, the TVpad games will automatically be installed 

You will see the screen above after all the tvpad games have been installed. Press the "OK" button

on your remote control and you will see the following screen again:

Now you can unplug your USB stick and then you will go back to the main menu. The TVpad game

apps icons should be in the list of apps now.

You can setup your WIFI connection on your TVpad by going to "Settings" in the main menu (begin screen) and then go to "Wi-Fi Settings". Now, go to "search" and press the "OK" button on your remote control.

The TVpad2 (TVpad M233) will now search all the available wireless networks in your area. Search for your network name (SSID name) and then insert your password. After inserting the password, TVpad2 (TVpad M233) will now try to make a connection with your router or modem. You should see the green sign that tells you that the TVpad2 has successfully been connected with your router or modem.

I have not encountered any problems watching the livestreams using a wireless connection. However, the TV channels will load faster using a wired connection. Also, TVpad2 will remember the WIFI settings (even after turning of the TVpad2), so you only have to setup the WIFI connection once.

As mentioned in an earlier post, the main difference between TVpad2 (TVpad M233) and the earlier version (TVpad M121S) is that TVpad2 has a better CPU and GPU compared to TVpad M121S. Another difference is that TVpad2 has a WIFI chipset built-in, so you don't need to use a WIFI USB stick anymore. Furthermore, TVpad2 has the ability to play games using the game controller. TVpad2 will also have VoIP feature in the future.

My experience about the TVpad2 (TVpad M233)

First, the start-up time of the mediaplayer is short and the loading time of the apps is also quite short. I did not really notice any huge difference if I have to compare it with the TVpad M121S.

Furthermore, it's great that a WIFI chipset is built-in. I have not encountered any problems watching livestreams or video on demand content using a wireless connection. It will only take more time to load the TV livestream or video on demand content (this depends how good the wireless connection is) compared to a wired connection. Also, TVpad2 will remember the WIFI setttings, so you don't need to setup the WIFI connection everytime you start the mediaplayer. You need to take into account that various factors can influence the wireless connection (for example the distance between the router/modem and the TVpad mediaplayer). If you encounter some problems with the livestreams (for example, if you can't watch the livestreams fluently), then try using a wired connection.

About the TV apps, I have noticed (and many others) that there are black bars (on both sides of the screen) in the livestreams of the HK app 粵海寬頻. Also, there is some lag in the Japanese niji show app (audio and video are not in sync). The TVpad management already knows this and they are planning to release a fix in the near future.

The TVpad games can be played using the game controller. There is currently 12 games that can be played and more games will be released in the future. I have played a couple of these games, they are easy to play (it's not difficult).

VoIP is a nice feature, but it is not available yet. I am hoping more livestreams (whether it is from HK or from another country) will be added in the future, I think most people buy this mediaplayer for the livestreams.

If you are getting the TVpad user does not exist message on your screen (user icon on the bottom is grey and not green), then it could mean that your Internet connection (wireless or wired connection) does not work. A working Internet connection is needed to confirm your identity. Also, try restart your TVpad (multiple times if needed). Sometimes, a restart of the tvpad will help.

If your Internet connection is working, then it could be that there are some problems with the TVpad authentication server. There is nothing you can do, you just have to wait untill they fix the problem (the server). They usually fix this problem very quickly.

Update (10 October 2013): the TVpad authentication server is down at the moment, so you are getting the "user does not exist" message on your screen even if you have a working Internet connection. They are now trying to repair it. It should take a couple of days. You don't have to do anything.

The servers should have been restored now. If you still get the user does not exist message, please contact the customer service.

How to watch TVpad2 livestream on your computer or mobile device (e.g.ipad)

As mentioned in a post of my other blog (TVpad M121S), it is possible to watch the TVpad2 livestreams for example on your computer or on your mobile device (tablet, mobile phone). You will have to turn on the machine if you would like to watch the same livestream somewhere else (for example on your computer or mobile device).

First, you will need to know the IP address of your TVpad. The IP address of your TVpad can be found inside "Settings" (Go to Grey icon in the start menu of the TVpad), then go to "cable network" icon or "wireless network" icon. Write the IP address down that you will see on the screen.

Then you will need to know the port number of your TVpad. The TVpad port number begins with 6001 and if you switch your TV channel to another channel, then the port number will increase with 1 (thus 6002), and so on.

After that, put the url (ip address of your TVpad:port number) in any media player that supports streams (for example, VLC player on your desktop PC or Mac). Use Oplayer to watch the livestream on your iPad or iPhone.
