How to open TVpad HK Cantonese livestream app and video on demand apps if you are from the US

If you live in the US (United States), you might have noticed recently on your TVpad that you can't open/start the TVpad apps anymore (including the HK Cantonese livestream app and HK video on demand app) even after you have changed the DNS number. 

Try the latest DNS number if you are from the US (try open the TVpad app even if network test says "abnormal"):

It seems the only solution for now is using a paid VPN provider that has servers around the world if you have the TVpad 2 or 3. By using a server with an IP address from that country (so not from the US), you can open the HK livestream app again, the video on demand apps and the other apps.  

Currently, there are a lot of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals on VPN providers, such as the following:

After you have purchased a paid VPN subscription, you have to put the server details on your router. Your router must support this function though. Some routers can be flashed with DD-WRT firmware. TVpad 4 YueTV app for people from the US (watch Cantonese TV content again)

If you live in the US and have the TVpad 4 (firmware version 5.054 or below), then installing the YueTV app should allow you to watch Cantonese TV content again. These are the steps to follow:

1. Download the YueTV app first here (it's an .zip file): YueTV app zip file

2. Use any program to unzip this zip file (such as free program 7-Zip). After you have extracted the zip file, there are two files inside: batchinstall.banana and YueTV V2.1

3. Copy these two files (batchinstall.banana and YueTV V2.1) to your USB-stick (don't put these files in any folder, just outside).

4. Start your TVpad 4 and connect your USB-stick with the two files inside (batchinstall.banana and YueTV V2.1) with your TVpad 4

5. Now, an install interface should automatically appear. Click on "install" to install the app.

6. After you have installed the YueTV app, you should be able to watch Cantonese TV content again.

WIFI or network settings could be set to "Auto" and it should be working, so I believe you don't need to change the DNS number.

How to change DNS on your TVpad 2, 3 and 4?

Some people are asking how to change DNS on your TVpad 2, 3 and 4. The most easy way to do this is by connecting an Ethernet cable (Internet cable) between your TVpad and modem/router. Normally, your router/modem will automatically assign all the information, such as IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS. Then, the only thing you have to change manually is the DNS number.

Go to the "Settings" option in the main menu (start-up screen). Then, choose "Network Settings" if you are using a wired connection (using an Ethernet cable). Switch to "Manual" and you only have to change the DNS number. IP address, subnet mask and gateway should be assigned already by your modem/router, so you don't need to change that.

Change the DNS number to  a working DNS number

After you have changed the DNS number, reboot (restart) your TVpad. The TVpad apps could be working again after you have changed the DNS number. TVpad HK TVB video on demand app and HK livestream app finally working again after DNS change

It seems the comprehensive HK video on demand app with video's from TVB, J2, etc is working again on my TVpad. The HK livestream app is also working again after I have changed my DNS number.

So after almost 2 weeks, it seems they have fixed the problem (at least for now). So luckily, it's not game over yet for the TVpad device.

TVpad HK TVB livestreams channels working again by changing the DNS number

Since two or 3 days ago, the HK TVB livestreams channels app did not work anymore on my TVpad. After that, I have manually changed the DNS number on my TVpad and the HK livestreams channels app HITV is working again on my TVpad.


Change your DNS number in the Settings to one of the DNS numbers below (just try until the HK livestream app is working again). IP address, Subnet mask and gateway remains the same, you do not have to change that.
